Self Portrait
For my self portrait I chose to do a series about my process of recovery. All three photos were taken in school behind a black backdrop. The first image was taken by me, and it involves a tic tac representing a pill. A chose to show this because I take medication, which helps me regulate my emotions and it has helped me become centered. The next image shows the two sides that make up who I am. The darker side being my illness which has caused a lot of hurt in my life. The other half being the light side representing the happy parts of me like my art, family, and friends. The darker side does push out the lighter side in this image, but overall it is the light that attracts the eye to the image. The last image is of my arms, and my scars. I chose this image to show the struggles I've had to face and pain that I endured. Overall I chose to show my scars to show my past and even though it was hard and continues to be hard, I'm still here and fighting. The last two images were taken by another student and my teacher with my direction. What makes this photos successful is the natural flow from each photo, and it being unified.
